Courtesy of Faith in Public Life.org comes a story that shows the growing rift between true evangelicals and the politicized Protestantism of the recent past. The Rev. Joel Huunter of the non-denominational Northwood Church in Longwood, FL was recently elected head of the Christian Coalition of America. He resigned because he was "unable to broaden the oranization's agenda beyond opposition to abortion and gay marriage."

He hoped to include issues such as easing poverty and saving the environment.
"These are issues that Jesus would want us to care about," Hunter said.
